Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty, also known as labia or vulvar rejuvenation, labia reduction, or vaginal lip reduction, is a procedure to decrease the size and improve the appearance of enlarged, or asymmetrical labia. The reduction of the labia minora (inner lips of the vulva) and labia majora (outer lips of the vulva) through surgery is used to shorten elongated labia or to correct asymmetrical labia. Vaginal birth can distort the original size and shape of the labia majora and/or minora.

Frequently Asked Questions about Labiaplasty:

How much will the labiaplasty procedure cost?
The labiaplasty procedure will cost approximately $3,800-$5,500

Can labiaplasty reduce sexual sensitivity?
When tissue around the clitoris is reduced, it may actually improve access to the clitoris and increase sexual sensitivity. Proper surgical technique is essential for the tissues around the clitoral area to heal properly. The American College of Gynecology states that in any cases in which the labiaplasty procedure has not been performed correctly, the tissue around the clitoris will appear disfigured.

How long will it be until I can return to normal activity?
After a labiaplasty procedure, most patients will be able to return back to work within 3-4 days. Patients can shower the next day, will have minimal bruising, have no stitches to remove, and can resume having intercourse within 3-4 weeks. In almost all cases, the surgical labia reduction is virtually undetectable after complete healing if patients are diligent in their care. Most patients in follow-up have reported being very pleased with the results.

What’s the difference between Femilift and labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty surgery is performed under a very light anesthesia, is generally performed in less than two hours, and usually involves little pain or discomfort to the patient. Labiaplasty involves no incisions and is used to rejuvenate the labia. Meanwhile, the FemiLift ™ procedure is usually performed in 30 minutes or less, is completely painless and minimally invasive, and is performed without any need for anesthetics. The Femilift procedure uses laser technology and is intended to tighten the vagina and strengthen the ligaments that surround the urethra and bladder.

Am I a good candidate for labiaplasty surgery?
You may be a good candidate for labiaplasty surgery if:

  • You have an enlarged labia that causes discomfort with pinching or pulling during certain activities, or with some clothing
  • You are embarrassed of your labia’s looks and desire a change in appearance
  • You want to increase sexual function

Review from a Labiaplasty patient:

I finally worked up the nerve to go through with a labiaplasty in 2011. It was the best thing I’ve done in a long time. The procedure takes about 40 minutes plus about 20 minutes for prep (just topical numbing) and another 10 minutes post-op recovery time.

I actually chatted with my surgeon the entire time which was super weird, but kind of comforting as well. The first day after the surgery was uncomfortable. However, after about 5 weeks, I was almost completely healed. It turns out that there are lots of women who have had this procedure done – it appears to be quite common.

My biggest regret is that I didn’t do it sooner. If I had realized how simple the procedure is and knew all the amazing benefits, I would have done it in high school!
